Franklin 1864
FRANKLIN 1864 allows gamers to refight the historic battles of Spring Hill and Franklin, Tennessee in 1864, using the popular Civil War Brigade Battle Series of rules. Franklin 1864 is Volume V, following Antietam, Shiloh, The Seven Days Battles, and Gettysburg.
The Battle of Spring Hill was a trap laid by Confederate General Hood in his drive on Nashville, trying to trap part of the Army of the Ohio under Union General Schofield. The historic battle did not go as Hood hoped with the Union forces escaping to Franklin relatively unscathed.
The Battle of Franklin the following day, November 30, was a last ditch by Hood trying to catch the Union forces with their back to a river and the bridges damaged. A lack of time, artillery, and planning led to a vicious Confederate defeat with 14 Confederate generals killed and 55 regimental commanders. The battle was a close run affair for the amount of time involved. A Union deployment mistake almost giving Hood the victory he so desparately sought.
